Race Results
Monday, June 28, 2010 at 7:17PM On Monday night, June 21st, we gathered at F1 Boston, ready to take on our first endurance race. Following an obnoxiously long wait for a drivers meeting we were told we needed to add 40 pounds to our kart to meet the team average. We added the weights, donned our gear, and got psyched up for qualifying. The format changed for this round, with all teams heading out at once in their own karts. Chris headed out first, followed by Steve, then Q. We managed a 39.6 second lap, which started us in 12th of 16.
It was decided that the order for running would be Chris, Steve, Q. With that the teams lined up, the caution laps were run, and the green flag was dropped. A total of 5 laps were managed before the first red flag was dropped, lining all the karts up again. The first pit came just over 15 minutes into the race, sending Steve into the fray. With a lighter driver the times started to drop, and possitions were gained. A second pit sent Q out to battle, and we seemed to have 9th place solidly in out grasp, even brushing as high as 6th once.
The third pit sent Chris back out to an imediate second red flag. This bunched the whole fleet up again, and the solid half lap lead on the nearest team was gone. In the fray of the restart chris dropped back, unable to hold off teams coming out of the twistier bits of the track. Dropping back to the starting 12th possition, Chris pitted to allow the faster Steve back out. Some furious driving brough us back up to 9th. The final pit send Q out to bring us home. Unfortunately the kart suffered a flat tire almost immediately, slowing Q dramatically before the race was red flagged again to change karts. With a few minutes left, Q managed to scrape the team back to 13th where we finished.
The finish was not what we hoped, but the race was fun, and we are immensely more prepared for the next time we run an endurance race. Lap times for the race are below. First graph shows all times. Spikes are pits and red flags. The second graph removes times from pits and red flags. Blue is Chris, green is Steve, and orange is Q.
